Get StartedThe Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Political Ambassador, Hon. Odeneye Olusegun, has urged the Federal Government to introduce interest free loan scheme in microfinance scheme for young graduates who are into vocations through the establishment of Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) . Odeneye who is representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, comprising of Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu and Ijebu North-East, made the call when he was honoured by ICAN as its political Ambassador.
Hon Odeneye said that if a micro finance scheme is set up to give interest free loan to unemployed youths who are into vocations such as vulcanisers, shoemakers, automobile mechanics, hairdressers, barbers, tailors and caterers and those who want to venture into agriculture and farming, among others would reduce restiveness and other social crimes in the country. According to him, “This will curb the rising wave of unemployment among youths.
Government alone cannot tackle unemployment in the country because there are various degree of unemployment. “We have people who are retrenched but are still able to work, we have graduates that are educated but nowhere to work, we have those who are into vocational training but have no financial backing to purchase working tools.” He stated that in his own little way of giving back to the society, he has consistently organised life changing empowerment programme that has changed the lives of over 1000 youths in his political constituency.
